In order to be able to evaluate in a Mediterranean environment varieties of Opuntia and related genres already selected in other environments for the production of biomass (Garcia de Cortazar and Nobel, 1992; Akanni et al., 2014), after a series of preliminary contacts we made an agreement with the ”Agrônomico de Pernambuco “- (IPA) in Recife (Brazil) for the introduction of selected material (25 genotypes) for our opuntia collection. The new material is characterized by having a target use mainly for biomass production.
